China Claims To Have Discovered Signals From Alien Civilisations, Would It Be Right To Contact Them?

China’s Sky Eye telescope may have spotted alien movement, according to the country’s scientists.

During the examination of data collected in 2019, the team apparently discovered two sets of worrisome signals in 2020. According to a report in the Chinese state-backed Science and Technology Daily, they also discovered another suspicious signal in 2022 from observation data of exoplanet targets.

The report appears to have been removed, but not before the news began trending on Weibo, China’s version of Twitter, and was picked up by other media outlets, including state-run outlets.

It’s unknown why the report was taken down from China’s Science and Technology Daily’s website, the official newspaper of China’s science and technology ministry.

China’s state media declared in September 2020 that it would begin seeking for ‘extraterrestrial civilizations’.

In the year 2020, the Five-hundred-Meter Aperture Spherical Telescope, often known as FAST, was eventually put into service and immediately began searching the cosmos for signs of intelligent life elsewhere in the universe.

Zhang Tonjie, chief scientist of an extraterrestrial civilisation search team co-founded by Beijing Normal University, the National Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the University of California, Berkeley, was quoted in the report as saying that the Sky Eye team is reportedly investigating narrow-band electromagnetic signals that differed from previous ones captured.

According to what Zhang was reportedly quoted as saying, China’s Sky Eye is the largest radio telescope in the world. It is also particularly sensitive in the low-frequency radio band, and it plays a crucial role in the hunt for alien civilizations.

The researchers warned that the odd signals might also be some form of radio interference, which calls for additional research into the matter.

Is Stephen Hawking Correct In His Judgment Of Aliens?

The search for intelligent life beyond Earth is a mainstay of literature and movies, but it is also happening in real life. Nasa spacecraft are searching for planets outside our solar system, and astronomers are listening for any messages sent into space. What an incredible feeling it would be to receive evidence that we are not alone in the universe, to talk with an alien race for the first time. Isn’t it?

No, says Stephen Hawking, a world-renowned physicist. “If aliens visit us, the conclusion will be similar to when Columbus landed in America, which did not go well for the Native Americans,” Hawking says in a Discovery Channel series. He contends that rather than attempting to locate and converse with extraterrestrial life, humans would be better served by avoiding contact.

According to Hawking, we are not the only life-form in the cosmos because of the vast number of planets that scientists assume must exist. After all, our galaxy alone contains billions upon billions of stars, each orbited by an even greater number of planets. And some of that alien species is likely to be intelligent and capable of intergalactic communication. So it’s worth paying attention when someone with Hawking’s cosmic knowledge recommends against interaction.
