Squid Game is a Netflix original South Korean survival drama series made by Hwang Dong-hyuk.
Squid Game is a movie about cash-strapped people competing in children’s games for the chance to win a great sum of money, but the losers have no choice but to die. The show was once the most-watched Netflix series on the world.
Squid Game Season 1 received critical acclaim and international attention when it was released worldwide on September 17, 2021. It is Netflix’s most-watched series, having surpassed Bridgerton for the title of most-watched show after being the most-watched program in 94 countries, garnering more than 142 million member households and accumulating 1.65 billion viewing hours in its first four weeks.
Netflix announced the second season of Squid Game via Twitter on Sunday.
Netflix informed fans of the news via a note from Hwang Dong-hyuk, the writer, director, producer, and creator of Squid Game.
“Red light… GREENLIGHT!” said Netflix in the first tweet announcing the news. Squid Game is officially coming back for Season 2.”

The director’s note for fans was also shared in the same thread by Netflix. “Hwang Dong-Hyuk, writer, director, producer, and inventor of @squidgame, has a message for the fans:” read the description on the Instagram post. “Bringing the first season of Squid Game to life last year took 12 years,” the message says. Squid Game, on the other hand, just needed 12 days to become Netflix’s most popular series ever. A giant shout out to Squid Game fans all over the world from the writer, director, and producer. Thank you for tuning in to our show and expressing your enthusiasm for it. Gi-hun has now reappeared. The Front Man makes an appearance once again. The second season will be released soon. It’s possible that the man in the suit with ddakji has returned. Young-boyfriend, hee’s Cheoul-su, will also be presented.”
During an interview with Korean network KBS in December of last year, Hwang said that not only had he finalized the narrative for the second season, but that he was also in talks with Netflix for a third season. Hwang also discussed the storyline for Season 2 in the same interview. “The story of Seong Gi Hun (played by star actor Lee Jung) unraveling will be the emphasis,” he stated (the mysteries of the organisation behind the game). The story of the individuals Gi Hun encounters and the ones he follows will be the overall theme of Season 2.”
Season two has yet to be given an official release date.
