Lysa TerKeurst is the founder of Proverbs 31 Ministries. She and her husband, Art, went through a divorce. A court filing shows that Art spent more than $100,000 of the couple’s money on an “illicit sexual” affair with a woman he met online.
Lysa TerKeurst filed for divorce in December 2021 and told the public about it in January. She said that her husband of almost 30 years had “chosen patterns of behavior that dishonor God and the biblical covenant of marriage.” They have five children together. However, later, they tried to get back together and renewed their vows in 2018.
Even so, three years later, Lysa said that her husband had continued to cheat on her and that she needed to “accept reality.” Read on to know everything about Lysa and Art’s relationship.
Inside Lysa TerKeurst’s And Art Divorce
Art admitted that he had “illicit sexual behavior” before signing the post-nuptial agreement, but he said that since then he had been a “faithful and responsible spouse.” Art said in his request for support after their divorce that he is “actually and substantially dependent on his wife for his maintenance and support” and that he doesn’t have the “financial ability or adequate resources” to live the way he wants to live.
But Lysa denied what her ex-husband said in an April court motion. Ministry Watch said that Lysa filed a motion to dispute Art’s counterclaims, respond to his accusations, and ask that arbitration be forced.

In her filing, the leader of the ministry said that her husband freely agreed to the post-nuptial agreement and left the alcohol treatment program before he finished it. She said that his claims that he was suicidal were not true and that Art TerKeurst had shown over the years that he had “narcissistic and sociopathic tendencies.”
The author of Forgiving What You Can’t Forget said that the couple “maintained completely separate financial accounts in accordance with the post-nuptial agreement” even after they got back together. She also said that her husband’s cheating should mean that she shouldn’t get post-separation support or alimony.
There are also text messages between Art TerKeurst and “Mistress X” that are part of the filing. He supposedly met the woman on the website SugarDaddy.com and spent at least $118,000 of the TerKeursts’ money on the relationship. Some of the costs were for the mistress to move from Atlanta to Charlotte, North Carolina, and for a “pre-engagement left-hand ring” to be bought for her.

Lysa’s Reaction to Divorce
In an April Instagram post, the leader of the ministry, Lysa TerKeursts gave an update and thought about the moment she said, “No more.” No more devastation. No more letting down. Don’t lie to me anymore. No more.”
“Sometimes saying “no more” means putting up good boundaries that hold each person responsible for healthier ways of being in relationships,” she wrote.
“Sometimes, saying “no more” means accepting a heartbreaking reality that wise advice has helped you see you can no longer deal with. We have to look for healing in both situations. We need to be led and guided by God’s word, which is full of solid truth. We need a godly, trained professional counselor who can teach, comfort, and push us.”
