Throughout the history of hip-hop, we’ve seen some really great groups work together. Whether it’s DaBaby and Megan Thee Stallion, Kanye West and Jay-Z, or even Lil Baby and Gunna, these musical duos show how great it can be when two musicians get along well. Drake seems to have shown that he can work with any of your favorite artists in the past. Aside from his success with Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj as part of the Young Money trio, the “Laugh Now, Cry Later” singer’s work with fellow Canadian artist The Weeknd is hard to forget.
XXL says that in 2010, when Drake posted two of The Weeknd’s songs on his October’s Very Own (OVO) blog, he introduced one of his biggest proteges to the mainstream market. In 2011, when The Weeknd was promoting his first mixtape, House of Balloons, they would meet up again. The singer of “Starboy” wrote and performed on four songs on Drake’s second album, “Take Care.” Those songs were “Crew Love,” “The Ride,” “Practice,” and “Shot For Me.” Drake also asked The Weeknd to join him on tour and be the first act at his live shows. Even though the OVOXO duo became a fan favorite quickly, their relationship outside of the studio was not always easy. Read on to find out more about the friendship between Drake and The Weeknd.
Drake wanted to add The Weeknd to his record label, OVO Records
Drake praised The Weeknd in an interview in October 2011. “He helped me write four songs on my album, which I’m very happy about. When it comes to writing, I don’t usually work with other people. “He told MTV News (via XXL) about it. “I’d rather write everything myself, but we get it. We both come from the same city, so we try to reach the same feelings.” Drake was not able to sign The Weeknd, even though they had written singles for each other that were on all of their early albums.
By 2012, The Weeknd had made a name for himself. XXL says that in 2012, Drake told Sway Calloway that he was trying to get the “What You Need” singer to sign with his OVO Sound label. “Everything looks good on paper, but that’s not really what matters. I only care that the connection is well-known, he said. “I’d like to keep working on his career, and he’d like for me to keep working on mine. We’d also like to keep making music together.”

Drake, on the other hand, thought about things differently. The Weeknd signed with Republic Records in September 2012. Many people thought Drake wasn’t happy when he tweeted, “You won’t get away with just a thank you. You owe me a favor.” Yikes.
Drake and the Weeknd aren’t dating, but their dispute may be over
In 2019, it was said that The Weeknd had helped Drake with his song “Lost in the Fire.” In the song, The Weeknd sings, “And I just want a baby with the right one/Because I would never be the one to hide one.” The Weeknd had obviously heard Pusha T’s garbage song “The Story of Adidon” way too many times.
Since then, things have gone better for the two. Drake said in the line “War” from his drill-influenced single 2020, “2020,” that he wants to make up with his protege. “And you know that guy who sounds like he sang on Thriller has been my n****/Yeah, we just had to fix things; we’re a family of six, and we can’t be apart.” We don’t know if The Weeknd is ready to stop fighting with Drake, but we hope they will work together again in the future.
At The Weeknd’s birthday party, Drake teames up with him
The Weeknd turned 32 this week, and he celebrated with friends in Las Vegas on Saturday night. Rapper Drake, a Toronto native, was spotted in the crowd, as evidenced by images and videos that have leaked online.
Their supposed feud was settled several years ago, and the former colleagues haven’t been seen together in a long time. With The Weeknd flanking him on the mic, Drake said, “I’ve been there since day one, and I’m pleased not only to be here… with my brothers, but just grateful that we’re back together where we belong… from the greatest city in the world.”

Members of Swedish House Mafia, Future, and Kaytranada from Montreal were among the artists who performed with Drake. Simi Khadra from Simi Haze was also present.
They were seen “making out like there was no tomorrow” in the early hours of the morning. As the week begins, Abel and Aubrey’s beautiful photos are drawing attention from admirers.
