Karen Ruth Bass is an American politician and social worker who has been the U.S. representative for California’s 37th congressional district since 2011. During her first term, the district was the 33rd district, and it included several areas south and west of downtown Los Angeles. As a member of the Democratic Party, she served for six years in the California State Assembly, the last two as speaker. Bass is a candidate for mayor of Los Angeles in the 2022 election.

Karen Bass Was Married To Jesus Lechuga
Karen Bass was married to Jesus Lechuga from 1980 to 1986. They got married in 1980. And in 1986 they decided to go their separate ways. After they got divorced, Bass and her ex-husband Lechuga raised their children together.
Karen Bass’ Daughter Died In A Car Accident
Jesus and Karen had one lovely daughter together, and his other children were born from an affair he had in the past. Emilia Wright, their daughter, was born on January 2, 1983. She used to be a long-time physician assistant in an emergency room and a community activist. In 2004, she was elected to the Assembly.

Their daughter, Emilia got married to Michael Wright. Emilia and her husband met at Loyola Marymount University, where they were both students. On October 29, 2006, Emilia and Michael Wright, Bass’ daughter and son-in-law, died in a car crash.
As per the reports, “Michael Wright was driving a 1997 Hyundai, and his wife was the only passenger. At 4:20 a.m. on Sunday, the car went off the road, crashed into a support beam, and caught fire on the 405 Freeway near the La Tijera Boulevard overpass. Officers said that they didn’t know why the car went off the road.”
Karen Bass said, “The hardest part was, and it was the same for (Biden), that we were both in public life when those accidents happened, so we couldn’t grieve privately.”
Meet Karen Bass’ Stepchildren
Scythia, Omar, and Yvette Lechuga are Bass’ stepchildren. They were born after Bass and Jesus Lechuga got a divorce in the 1980s. Bass, a physician’s assistant, stayed friends with Lechuga until he died ten years ago.
She was involved in the children’s lives “since I was in the womb,” said Scythia, a manager at a Ralphs in Santa Clarita. “Karen gave my mom her first prenatal while she was in the delivery room.

Bass and the Lechuga children’s biological mother stay friends, which is good because so many divorces end in bad feelings. Almost immediately, Bass pushed back.
